Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) has been in operation in Ireland since 1964, employing over 600 people across a range of activities and business units.

The Global External Manufacturing (ExM) organization headquartered in Dublin, is responsible for the management of manufacturing and reliable supply across the Bristol-Myers Squibb global network. This includes management of, and working in conjunction with, third party contract manufacturers and internal manufacturing sites.

In Ireland, External Manufacturing has two sites, global HQ in Dublin 15 and a distribution centre in Shannon, Co Clare.

Many of the global business services, including Commercial, the European Treasury Centre, Global Bio Lab and Global Logistics are based on the island of Ireland.Ireland is also home to Cruiserath Biologics Campus, a one billion Multi-Product Cell Culture Biologics Manufacturing facility. This state of the art facility produces multiple therapies for the company's growing biologics portfolio and plays a central role in Bristol-Myers Squibb global manufacturing network.

ExM's strategy and robust operating model is focused on evolving and continuously improving ways of working to take External Manufacturing to the next level, leveraging data and technology in an effort to deliver product to customers and patients at optimum speed, time and cost.

The Role

BMS External Manufacturing is looking to recruit a permanent MS&T Manager API to join our Manufacturing Science and Technology group based in Dublin. The Manufacturing Science and Technology group is responsible for the provision of technical expertise in the areas of API, Drug Product, Sterile Manufacturing and Packaging for products manufactured in an external manufacturing environment.

The MS&T Manager API role requires demonstrated experience of the technical management of processes relating to the manufacture of small molecule API.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Technical leadership and oversight for the manufacture of a portfolio of products (APIs, Intermediates and Starting Materials) produced at Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) for Bristol Myers Squibb.
  • Ensuring robust process performance at our CMOs. Providing technical leadership for process monitoring, control and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Leadership and accountability for technology transfers.
  • Providing technical leadership in the understanding of root causes for manufacturing process deviations.
  • Providing technical leadership for change management, investigation CAPA identification and related activities at CMO site.
  • Driving strategies to improve processing efficiency and to ensure optimised technical support for manufacturing, technology transfer and process scale-up.
  • Supporting CMO/vendor selection - preparation of technical information packages, leading technical due diligence and site assessments, technical evaluation of RFIs and RFPs.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • A graduate or post-graduate level qualification in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field with ideally a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
  • Recognised technical leader and subject matter expert in API process development and commercial manufacture.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management and technical leadership capability.
  • Solid experience in commercial manufacturing of API in accordance with GMP standards in an external manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of process, engineering, analytical and regulatory requirements (cGMP, filing, EHS).
  • Demonstrated capability to lead complex technical investigations.
  • Thorough understanding of statistical process analysis and control methods.
  • Confident management of internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Highly proficient in technical writing and technical presentations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills as well as the ability to translate technical issues into business impact and relevant solutions.
  • The position will require varying levels of travel - estimated at 20%.
